During my stay at the local hospital with my wife, my Porsche decided to have the check engine light come on. I brought it in to the closest mechanic and they were very honest and said they might not be able to work on the later models but looked up the fault code and explained to me what it was. And they didn't charge me even though it only took a few minutes of the time; most places probably would have charged something. I wish all mechanics are as trustworthy as them.
